La vitamina D tiene multitud de efectos beneficiosos para la salud, de manera que se está convirtiendo en algo parecido a la aspirina: sirve para casi todo... para la esclerosis múltiples, osteoporosis, depresión leve, cáncer, etc.

La epidemióloga Dra. Louise Parker, de Halifax, Nueva Escocia, Canadá, recomienda la ingesta de mil unidades de la vitamina a días alternos. En un comunicado ha señalado:

Dr. Louise Parker, an epidemiologist at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, says vitamin D may be the "new aspirin" but it works in very complicated way, including changing the way cells work.

There is medical speculation that vitamin D may block cancer cell proliferation or improve immune system functions, but its role is not fully understood, Parker says. Parker says that 1,000 units a day is well beyond what people can obtain from food sources -- it appears in fatty fish like salmon and sardines, cod liver oil and egg yolks.

"If you were to lie naked on a beach in the Bahamas, and I don't recommend that because of skin cancer, you cannot get up to the equivalent of 1,000 units of vitamin D a day," Parker says in a statement.
